Heineken has released a new draught stout in Ireland that includes tea as an ingredient.
Island’s Edge joins Heineken’s other Irish stouts Murphy’s and Beamish and is set to take on Diageo’s Guinness in its home market. Tea is added to the new beer in a process that according to Heineken reduces bitterness.

By GlobalData“Island’s Edge offers a modern take on stout with a refreshing taste and a progressive attitude,” said Paula Conlon, marketing manager for stout & ciders at Heineken Ireland. “The unexpected addition of tea to the stout has resulted in a smoother, creamier, more accessible stout which consumers loved in taste tests.”
The stout will initially roll out on tap to 300 Dublin bars, with a wider on-premise release set for later this year.
Island’s Edge is not the first new product from Heineken this year. In April, the brewer released Inch’s, a sustainable UK cider that turns the waste from its production into green energy.
