Whyte & Mackay has partnered with an NFT marketplace to auction off a digital rendering of a collection of expressions from its The Dalmore single malt Scotch whisky brand.
The four-strong The Dalmore Decades No. 4 Collection will be made available for bidding via NFT seller BlockBar on 7 December at an SRP of US$137,000. The digitally-rendered collection comprises:
-
The Dalmore Decades 1979 – aged in former Matusalem Oloroso Sherry and ex-Graham’s Port Vintage 1952 casks,
- The Dalmore Decades 1980 – matured in ex-Bourbon casks and Matusalem Sherry barrels before being returned to ex-Bourbon barrels,
- The Dalmore Decades 1995 – matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and former Tintilla de Rota Port butts, and
- The Dalmore Decades 2000 – aged for 20 years in ex-Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks
“The Dalmore offers some of Scotland’s most rare and precious whisky stocks and the No.4 Collection offered as an exclusive NFT signifies a fantastic opportunity for the crypto-curious to explore single malt whisky as an investment,” said the brand’s private client director, Gerry Tosh.
Whyte & Mackay added that 25 sets of the collection will be available to purchase in tangible format in the coming months from UK-based specialist retailers Selfridges, Annabel’s and La Grande Epicurie at an SRP of GBP100,000 ($133,183).
Whyte & Mackay is not the only spirits brand owner to venture into the NFT space this year. In August, Bacardi launched NFT versions of a newly-released line of cask-finished rums.
