
References to the terms ‘supply chain’ and ‘logistics’ in beverage companies’ filings have risen markedly in recent months, according to recently-released data.
In the 12 months to the end of September, the rate of mentions for the two terms soared by 101% on the same period in 2015-2016, when GlobalData first began to track the key issues referred to in companies’ filings. The rise has happened at a time when brand owners are being impacted by issues along their entire supply chain, while logistics is causing concern due to truck driver shortages in markets including the US.
Of the 20 biggest employers in beverages, Keurig Dr Pepper referred to 'supply chain' and 'logistics' the most over the 12 months. GlobalData identified 130 supply chain & logistics-related sentences in the US-based company's filings, representing 1.9% of all sentences.
PepsiCo mentioned the terms the second-most, in 1.2% of the sentences in its filings. Other top employers with high supply chain & logistics mentions included The Coca-Cola Co, Nestle and Danone.
In the third quarter - to the end of September - the filing that featured the strongest focus on the two themes came from The Coca-Cola Co. Of the document's 1,155 sentences, 28 (2.4%) referred to the terms. During the same period, beverage companies based in the US were most likely to mention 'supply chain' and 'logistics' with 0.87% of sentences in their filings referring to the issues. In contrast, companies with their headquarters in Asia mentioned the terms in just 0.29% of sentences.
