The top five companies accounted for 8% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Nestle filed the most plant-based diets patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 19 plant-based diets-related patents in the quarter, compared with 24 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Amano Enzyme with 12 plant-based diets patent filings, Kangnam University (10 filings), and Oatly (10 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 28% share of total patent filings
The largest share of plant-based diets related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2024 was in China with 28%, followed by the US (12%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by China was 11% lower than the 39% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
