The top five companies accounted for 67% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most cloud patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 18 cloud-related patents in the quarter, compared with 24 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Hisense Visual Technology with 6 cloud patent filings, LG (5 filings), and BlackBerry (4 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 69% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cloud related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 69%, followed by China (13%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by the US was 31% higher than the 38% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
