Electrolit, the hydration beverages business owned by Mexico’s Grupo Pisa, is planning its first production facility in the US.

The 600,000 square-foot site in Waco, Texas, will be built with an investment of $400m and is expected to be operational early in 2026. More than 200 jobs will be created at the fully automated plant.

Electrolit, which entered the US market a decade ago, said the decision to manufacture locally was due to “growing demand across North America”.

Its presence in the US was bolstered in 2023 when the company struck a sales and distribution deal with Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), which noted Electrolit was generating around $400m in sales at the time in the US market.

For the upcoming US plant, Electrolit has secured land in Texas Central Park.

“We’re excited to announce our new US manufacturing facility, marking a major milestone in our growth and commitment to quality,” Electrolit said in a statement.

“As we move forward, we remain dedicated to providing the best hydration solutions in the market and are confident that the years ahead will bring even greater innovations and improvements.”

The facility is being set up with support from the City of Waco, the Waco Industrial Foundation and the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.

In compliance with Texas’ plastic usage regulations, the Waco site will “have the capacity to incorporate non-virgin and recycled packaging materials when available”, the company said.

The facility will also make use of the local rail infrastructure to reduce carbon emissions.

Electrolit, established in Mexico in 1950 and owned by the Pisa Pharmaceuticals subsidiary, offers hydration beverages in 16 flavours. The drinks are formulated with electrolytes and ions to aid in hydration and metabolic balance.

Waco mayor Jim Holmes said: “Attracting a business like Electrolit meets the economic development objectives of our city by bringing in a quality business, a great management team, a significant financial commitment, and good jobs that help provide financial security to our Waco residents.”
