Notably, the number of artificial intelligence-related patent applications in the consumer industry was 844 in Q3 2024, versus 1,137 in the prior quarter.

The top five companies accounted for 51% of patenting activity

Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most artificial intelligence patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 159 artificial intelligence-related patents in the quarter, compared with 160 in the previous quarter. It was followed by LG with 93 artificial intelligence patent filings, Vivo Mobile Communication (72 filings), and Haier Group (55 filings) in Q3 2024.

Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 35% share of total patent filings

The largest share of artificial intelligence related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 35%, followed by China (27%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by the US was 11% higher than the 24% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
