The top five companies accounted for 30% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that LG filed the most environmental sustainability patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 131 environmental sustainability-related patents in the quarter, compared with 131 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Haier Group with 110 environmental sustainability patent filings, Vivo Mobile Communication (109 filings), and Daikin Industries (72 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 20% share of total patent filings
The largest share of environmental sustainability related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2024 was in China with 20%, followed by the US (19%) and Japan (8%). The share represented by China was 38% lower than the 59% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
