The top five companies accounted for 57% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most cybersecurity patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 99 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 115 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications with 73 cybersecurity patent filings, LG (73 filings), and Vivo Mobile Communication (63 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 49% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cybersecurity related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 49%, followed by China (16%) and Japan (5%). The share represented by the US was 13% higher than the 36% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
