Pernod Ricard will report its quarter four and full-year numbers on Thursday. Here, just-drinks takes a look at what the Paris-headquartered group has been up to in the three months to the end of June:
- In April, the company was believed to be scouting for parties interested in acquiring its Czech herbal liqueur brand, Becherovka.
- Also in April, Pernod said it was expanding its Our/Vodka concept to 11 new cities as it attempts to tap into global demand for local craft spirits. Our/Vodka gives spirits makers the chance to produce a locally-sourced vodka.
- Pernod, through its Irish Distillers unit, became a founding member of the Irish Whiskey Association when it was launched on 9 April. The body intends to champion the industry world-wide while offering legal protection for the category in international markets.
- At the end of April, Pernod announced the acquisition of Kenwood Vineyards in California. The deal was completed a month later.
- In May, Australia-based wine maker Treasury Wine Estates quashed speculation linking Pernod Ricard with its US wine assets. The TWE group has since been targeted by two potential bids from private-equity firms.
- Also in May, Pernod said it was teaming up with Lady Gaga’s latest US tour to promote its Absolut vodka brand.
- At the end of the month, Pernod lifted the curtain on a new visitor centre at its Beefeater gin distillery in London.
- In June, the firm proposed a reorganisation of its French distribution units that could see up to 60 jobs cut.
- The company also defended a decision to cut workers ahead of a strike at its South Korea unit. At the same time, Pernod announced is was restructuring its sales team in South Korea, with expected job losses.
