US-based vintner Ackley Brands has acquired the Charles Smith Wines portfolio from California’s The Wine Group.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal sees the wine brands including Band of Roses, Kung Fu Girl, Eve, Chateau Smith, The Velvet Devil and Boom Boom! added to Ackley Brands’ roster.
The deal, closed on 8 August. No properties, physical assets or staff were exchanged in the agreement.

By GlobalDataFollowing the acquisition, Ackley Brands will take the production of the Charles Smith Wines in-house. The brands will now be produced at the vintner’s winery in Prosser, Washington.
The combined brands claim to have an annual production capacity of roughly 160,000 cases. Of that, the Riesling Kung Fu Girl shift 80,000 cases annually, while the Syrah wine Boom Boom! account for 60,000 cases sold yearly.
Charles Smith Wines are sold across the US and internationally through on- and off-trade channels.
Founded in Washington state in 2016, Ackley Brands started with its Montinore Estate Vineyard and Tidalstar Vineyard in Oregon. It now owns nine wine businesses across both Washington and Oregon.
Ackley Brands has been on an acquisition spree over the last 12-months.
In April, Ackley Brands acquired two wineries based in Washington from Gallo. The US wine giant sold Columbia Winery and Hogue Cellars for an undisclosed sum.
The Washington group agreed to buy the facilities, stock and equipment of both wineries. Together, Columbia Winery and Hogue Cellars produce 130,000 cases annually.
Ackley Brands acquired the Washington state vintner Betz Family Winery the following month.
The vintner said the acquisition of Betz Family Winery, which produces Bordeaux and Rhône-style red wines, allows the company to expand its “footprint” in Washington and Oregon.
Ackley Brands entered beer last year through its purchase of Mac & Jack’s Brewing Co.
