William Grant & Sons has decided to handle its own distribution in Australia.
The family-controlled firm, which owns the Glenfiddich, Grant’s Scotch whisky and Hendrick’s gin brands, confirmed yesterday (5 May) that it will create WGS Australia at the end of this year, once its current distribution agreement with Suntory Australia comes to an end.
Suntory’s Australian unit had managed William Grant’s portfolio in the country for the past three years.
“We would like to thank Suntory Australia for their commitment to our business and their enthusiasm and support over the last three years, cementing a strong position for our brands including Glenfiddich, The Balvenie and Grant’s,” said company CEO Stella David.
Suntory Australia’s managing director, Ian Atherton, added: I would like to thank our trade partners and the Suntory team for their dedication, passion and success in taking the Grant’s brand from fourth in the Scotch market to second. We wish WGS Australia the very best for the future.”
