Bacardi has released a Dewar’s Scotch whisky expression that has been finished in Japanese Mizunara oak casks.
Dewar’s Japanese Smooth comprises the brand’s eight-year-old double blended Scotch, matured for a short time in the Japanese casks. According to Bacardi, the result is a whisky that mixes the signature Dewar’s notes of heather and honey with floral and woody flavours from the Mizunara oak.
Japanese Smooth is Dewar’s fourth iteration in a cask-finished series, joining Portuguese Smooth, Illegal Smooth and Caribbean Smooth. The line, first unveiled last year, follows a loosening of Scotch whisky restrictions to allow a wider range of casks in the maturation process.
Last year, Pernod Ricard’s Chivas Brothers unit launched a Tequila-finished Scotch whisky as part of a new range from the Chivas blended Scotch brand.
