UK gin business Cygnet Gin has moved its production to Welsh whisky distiller Penderyn.

The production of Cygnet is to take place at Penderyn’s distillery in Swansea.

Founded by singer Katharine Jenkins and artist and filmmaker Andrew Levitas, Wales-based Cygnet Gin has two main gin SKUs, Cygnet 22 and Cygnet Welsh Dry, sold at an RRP of £48.50 ($61.86) and £35.99 respectively.

Just Drinks has asked Cygnet to confirm if all its production has moved to Penderyn.

The Penderyn site, which opened in 2023 with a £3.8m lottery grant, includes a visitor centre and an annual capacity of 400,000 litres.

In August, Penderyn paused production at the site. At the time, Penderyn CEO Stephen Davies cited factors such as the rise in UK alcohol duty, the cost-of-living crisis, and a “general economic slowdown” as reasons for the halt.

In a statement today, Davies said: “This collaboration is a natural fit for Penderyn, and we look forward to opening the distillery doors to fans of this exceptional brand.”

Guests will be able to enjoy tours and tastings for both brands, with a dedicated Cygnet “experiential space” set to open next year, accessible by invitation.

In the statement, Levitas added: “Cygnet is positioned to pioneer a new frontier for the category and Penderyn is the ideal new home for us and Cygnet’s 6th generation master distilling team.”

Last month, former Campari Group CEO Matteo Fantacchiotti invested in Cygnet and became the UK distiller’s chairman.

Cygnet’s products are available only in the UK, with plans to expand into the EU and other international markets soon.

In the UK, Cygnet is listed in upmarket on-trade locations including Searcys Estate, The Ivy Collection, and The Cosy Club bars and restaurants nationwide.

Cygnet also has listings at UK retailers Waitrose and Marks and Spencer. Its products are also available at regional Tesco and Co-Op stores throughout Wales.
