US-based Hundred Acre Wine Group has acquired Kelly Fleming Winery in California.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Kelly Fleming Winery is a 286-acre estate located in Simmons Canyon between Calistoga and St. Helena on the east side of the Napa Valley. The estate comprises 12 acres of vineyards and a 5,000-square-foot stone winery.

The Napa Valley winery will be combined with Hundred Acre’s adjoining ‘Few And Far Between’ vineyard, which is made up of five acres of vineyard as part of a 115-acre total property.

Hundred Acre will own 400 acres of total property following the transaction.

The winery facilities at the Fleming ranch are carved into the hillside, similar to Hundred Acre’s ‘The Ring’ cave winery, the group said in a statement. The purchase will also “allow for more barrel fermentations in the caves”.

Hundred Acre’s founder Jayson Woodbridge said the first harvest from the formerly Kelly Fleming vineyards will be in the third quarter of 2024.

“It’s a perfect fit for Hundred Acre. We are proud and privileged to have acquired this property we have long admired, from Kelly,” Woodbridge added.

Kelly Fleming said: “When I acquired this property in 1998, I had a vision for creating an estate that would be worthy of this special volcanic canyon terroir. I’ve seen my dream come true.

“I’ve left this estate vineyard as beautiful as I found it. It has a tiny footprint, it’s a memorable place to visit and celebrate Cabernet Sauvignon. I look forward to the Woodbridge family carrying on the legacy, bringing their masterful touch to the wines they’ll create here.”

In July, Woodbridge purchased Madrigal Vineyards, a 10-acre property between Calistoga and St. Helena in California to use for his other wine brand Fortunate Son Wines. It has eight acres of planted vineyards, a winery, appointment-only tasting room, garden and small private estate.

In 2022, Woodbridge also bought a historic 1870s-era 18-acre vineyard at Calistoga’s Larkmead Lane and the corner of Highway 29, now called True Romance Vineyard. The site is to be used to build an estate for Fortunate Son, expected to be built by 2027.

The winemaker also owns the brand Summer Dreams, which produces Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay wines, among others, out of three vineyards in California’s Sonoma Coast – Heintz vineyard, Petersen ranch and Vulcan ridge.
