Spirits group Sazerac has acquired US ready-to-drink cocktail brand BuzzBallz.
In a joint statement, the companies said the deal will allow BuzzBallz to “reach more consumers domestically and internationally”. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Texas-based Buzzballz, which does business as Southern Champion, was established in 2009 by Merilee Kick as a result of her master’s degree thesis. The business produces spherically-shaped RTD cocktails including flavours like Chili Mango and Strawberry ‘Rita.
“Merrilee and the team at BuzzBallz have created incredible brands and we are both honoured and excited to partner together to take them to the next level,” Sazerac CEO and president Jake Wenz said. “BuzzBallz is truly one-of-a-kind and we can’t wait to help spread the products to more consumers all over the world.”
US-based Sazerac, privately held by William Goldring, has a portfolio that includes Buffalo Trace Bourbon and Southern Comfort. The company declined to comment further on the deal when approached by Just Drinks.
Wenz was promoted from COO to chief executive last year when CEO Mark Brown became executive chair of the business.
