Sustainable energy group Tesla has branched out into drinks with the launch of a Tequila under its namesake brand in the US.
The company, which is headed by Elon Musk, has introduced a 100% agave Anejo Tequila, aged in French oak barrels. Tesla Tequila, which carries an SRP of US$250 per bottle, is available to “select US states”.
The liquid is produced by Nosotros Tequila with delivery handled by direct-to-consumer specialists Speakeasy Co.
According to the Tesla web shop, the 40% abv product is already out of stock and reports suggest the product sold out “within hours” of going online. The Tequila is packaged in a lightning bolt-shaped bottle that rests on a silver-coloured plinth, featuring the Tesla logo.
Tequila and mezcal are enjoying continued success in the US. According to figures from GlobalData, volumes have increased consistently over the past six years, from 21m cases in 2014 to 32m cases in 2019. Forecasts show that Tequila and mezcal volumes are on track to almost double from 2014 to break the 40m-case marker in 2023.
