The Coca-Cola Co is to launch an alcoholic sparkling water under the Topo Chico brand.
Topo Chico Hard Seltzer will go on sale in Latin America later this year, Coca-Cola said yesterday. The launch will be just one of a handful of alcoholic ones in the history of Coca-Cola, a soft drinks maker previously reluctant to stray beyond its core category.
In a statement, Coca-Cola said: “The Coca-Cola Co is committed to exploring new products in dynamic beverage categories, including hard seltzer. Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is an experimental drink inspired by Topo Chico sparkling mineral water, which has been popular with many mixologists. Topo Chico Hard Seltzer will be offered in select cities in Latin America later this year. We will share more details closer to launch.”
In 2018, Coca-Cola revealed its Japanese unit was to roll out a chuhai drink, tapping into growing demand for the spirit-and-soda RTD. The following year, the company expanded the launch with a 9%-abv version of the RTD.
