The Coca-Cola Co has released an Honest Tea RTD based on the yerba mate brew from South America.

Honest Yerba Mate, which will roll out to the US, contains 13g of sugar and 60 calories per 15.5oz (45cl) can. Coca-Cola said the launch continues efforts to release certified-organic, fair-trade beverages through the Honest Tea brand.

The group added that the new launch, which also contains 8oz of caffeine, “meets our consumer at the intersection of coffee and tea”.

“Adding Yerba Mate to our Honest roster felt like a natural fit, and we’re thrilled to introduce this new beverage to our line-up,” said Alexis Green, senior brand manager of Honest Tea.

Three flavours are available – Strawberry Pomegranate Matcha, Peach Mango Green Tea and Lemon Ginger Black Tea.

Yerba mate is a traditional caffeinated South American drink, brewed from leaves and stems of the yerba mate plant.
