Marston’s has said that its brewing business outperformed the UK beer market in the last 12 months, with all of the firm’s divisions showing improvement.

Marston’s said today (6 October) that earnings before tax and exceptional items for the year to 2 October were in-line with its expectations.

Volume sales of own-brewed beer were “slightly lower” on the previous year, but still outperformed a UK beer market that shrank by 6% over the same period. “In Marston’s Beer Company, we expect that both turnover and operating profits will be slightly ahead of last year against strong comparatives,” said the group.

Premium ale volume sales rose by 3%, benefiting from Marston’s’ focus on local beer brands and a pick-up in cask ale sales in general in the UK.

Looking ahead, Marston’s said that it was in a “strong position” after seeing improvements in all its business divisions. It will also continue to increase its food offering in pubs, in-line with a general industry strategy.
