The great-grandchildren of the founder of Barq’s root beer have filed a lawsuit against The Coca-Cola Co, claiming the firm does not legally own a share of the company.
The lawsuit, filed in a US District Court last month, alleges Coca-Cola did not have the right to buy one third of Barq’s back in 1995. The company owned by Jesse Robinson, son of Jasper Robinson, the illegitimate son of Barq’s founder Edward Charles Edmond Barq Sr, has claimed that he did not agree to a sale, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported on Sunday (17 October).
A Coca-Cola spokesperson dismissed the claim. “We are aware of the suit and believe it to be totally without merit,” the spokesperson said.
