Coca-Cola’s much anticipated new advertising campaign, which will launch in the US today, is to feature actresses Penelope Cruz and Courteney Cox and singer Mya, the Wall Street Journal reported today.

The appearance of fashionable, young celebrities is a course well-used by rival PepsiCo to good effect. Pepsi endorsers have included, Madonna, Britney Spears and most recently Beyonce Knowles.

According to the reports, the ad campaign will include commercials showing Cruz drinking Coke, Cox pouring her husband, actor David Arquette, a Coke. And a third with singer Mya giving a version of Eddie Harris’s golden oldie “Compared to What”.

There are also to be print ads featuring boxer Muhammad Ali and NASCAR drivers, the report said.

According to the article, the new ads are intended to fill an important gap by appealing to teens and ethnic consumers.
