US vintner WarRoom Cellars has acquired a trio of Californian wine brands from Mendocino Wine Company.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The brands changing hands are True Grit, Paul Donan Vineyards and Parducci Wine Cellars, the oldest wine brand still operating in the Mendocino country region. Parducci Wine Cellars was founded in 1932 in Ukiah, in north-eastern California.
All three brands are produced at the Ukiah winery. WarRoom said it plans to keep producing the three brands’ organic wines at this facility, sourcing grapes from the local La Ribera vineyard.
WarRoom Cellars told Just Drinks that it “may consider other facilities” for the production of the brands’ non-organic ranges. It added it already sources grapes from Mendocino county for its Lapis Luna and Toad Hollow wine labels.
Mendocino Wine Company has owned the Ukiah winery since 2004, then known as Parducci Wine Cellars. Reports from local news agency The Press Democrat at the time indicate the group purchased the winery from Carl Thoma, co-founder of US private-equity group Thoma Bravo.

By GlobalDataBased in Santa Margarita, WarRoom Cellars’ portfolio includes the wines Eppa Sangria, Rutta 22, Skyfall Vineyard, Lapis Luna, Toad Hollow and Bonny Don Vineyard.
In May, the group snapped up five brands from the Boisset Collection, the US branch of major French wine producer Famille des Grands Vins. The deal included the brands Lyeth Estate, Lockwood Vineyard and American Vintage.
WarRoom Cellars works with the US drinks distributor and importer Total Beverage Solution (TBS) to sell its products in the country. TBS will manage the sales and distribution of the Parducci, Paul Donan and True Grit brands.
The three wine brands already have “full distribution across the US” in on- and off-trade locations, WarRoom Cellars said. They are also sold internationally.
It added that “expanding into export markets is a key initiative for WarRoom” and that its partnership with TBS looks “to increase the global presence of our wines and build greater awareness of California wine in international markets”.
In September, TBS was confirmed to have had its $6.02m bid offer accepted for Vintage Wine Estates’ Layer Cake, Cartlidge & Browne and Tamarack wine brands. The purchase included their intellectual property and “all finished cased goods”, according to court filings viewed by Just Drinks at the time.
