US wine group Wente Family Estates is to import and distribute the Champagne Castelnau brand in the country.

The deal marks Champagne Castelnau’s debut in the US, the family-owned Californian wine group said.

It is also the first time Wente Family Estates has distributed a Champagne in the US.

The range of Castelnau Champagnes set to go on sale in the country will include a Brut cuvée priced at $54.99 and the 2008 vintage of Brut Blanc de Blancs at $89.99.

A spokesperson for Wente Family Estates said the Castlenau Champagnes will be available “in select markets beginning this fall and will be offered at exclusive restaurants, luxury hotels and fine wine retailers”.

In a statement, Hannelore Chamaux, CEO of Champagne Castelnau, said the deal “marks an important chapter in our international expansion”.

According to data provided by the company, Champagne Castelnau generated revenues of “almost €10m ($10.9m)” last year, up 49%. Exports accounted for two-thirds of sales.

Alongside its own portfolio of brands, Wente Family Estates also distributes for Cava producer Blanchard Perez, as well as two Argentinian wine groups: Blanchard & Lurton and Bodega Cuarto Dominio.

Champagne Castelnau is part of Terroirs et Vignerons de Champagne (TEVC), which is also home to brands including Nicolas Feuillatte and Henriot.

In June, another US wine group, Jackson Family Wines, announced a deal to become the “exclusive importer” for Henriot in the US.
