William Grant & Sons has released a 25-year-old expression of its The Balvenie single malt.

The Balvenie Twenty-Five, part of the brand’s Rare Marriages series, joins The Balvenie Thirty and The Balvenie Forty within the collection. The series uses rare and vintage casks in the maturation process.

Earlier this year, William Grant strengthened its Global Travel Retail team as the channel continued to struggle with declines in international travel. David Wilson, who spent five years as Beam Suntory’s GTR MD, was moved from head of William’s Grant’s Quality Spirits International unit to lead duty free operations.

GTR has been one of the hardest-hit channels in the global beverage industry and in June, trade group Tax Free World Association provided figures that showed the number of international air departures fell by 76% last year compared to 2019.

TFWA believes a recovery is on the way, however as consumers eager to spend money saved during the pandemic go “revenge shopping”.
