North American water beverages company BlueTriton Brands has appointed Joey Bergstein as its new CEO.
Bergstein will take on the role at the end of the month.
He will leave his position at the hummus and guacamole producer Sabra Dipping Company, where he had been president and CEO since 2021.
While at Sabra, he is said to have placed a focus on accelerating “innovation and sustainability”.
“I have spent my career helping build great businesses – and helping those businesses make a meaningful difference in the world. I’m honoured to bring my experience to bear at BlueTriton, where we are working to build a better water company and be a force for good,” Bergstein said in a statement.
He added: "We have an amazing responsibility to help conserve, protect, and responsibly package our natural resources for the long-term, while providing healthy hydration to millions.”
Based in Connecticut, BlueTriton manages a waters portfolio that it sells in the US and Canada. Its brands include spring waters Arrowhead, Ozarka and Poland Spring, as well as flavoured water beverages like Splash Blast. The company also owns Ready Refresh, which offers water delivery services to homes and businesses.
BlueTriton, formerly a Nestlé Waters subsidiary, operates 28 production facilities across the US and employs more than 7,000 people.
Bergstein’s past experience also includes being vice president of marketing for Canadian brewer Molson and as a senior executive at Diageo.
Speaking on the news, Dean Metropoulos, chairman of BlueTriton’s board of directors said: “With more than 30 years of experience building and leading iconic consumer goods brands focused on sustainability, governance, and corporate culture, Joey embodies what it means to be a purpose-driven CEO”.
Kimberly Reed, partner at One Rock Capital Partners and member of the BlueTriton board of directors said that the appointment comes at a time when the company “[looks] to differentiate ourselves within the category and continue to grow.”
Just Drinks has contacted BlueTriton for comment on how Bergstein plans to make the company’s operations more sustainable.
Earlier this year, the company faced difficulties with its Arrowhead brand when state officials restricted its access to the Strawberry Creek watershed in California.
