Camus Cognac has partnered with Flor de Caña’s Luxury Spirits International (LSI) division to import the French spirit to the US.

The Cognac distiller did not disclose its previous importer for the US market, having first entered the country around 50 years ago.

LSI will now import Camus to sell the Cognac nationwide in the US. Camus was previously represented by different distributors, a spokesperson told Just Drinks.

Flor de Caña, owned by Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua, formed LSI in 2022 after deciding to manage its own US imports. On the other side of the world, Camus’ French and Chinese subsidiaries – Camus France Distribution and Camus Yuanliu respectively – distribute the rum brand.

Camus has several different Cognac variations available in the US, including two single-estate Cognacs: Camus VSOP Borderies and Camus XO Borderies. The company also sells its “intensely aromatic” Cognacs there, namely VS Intensity, VSOP Intensity and XO.

“This new partnership brings fantastic opportunities to leverage our combined portfolio as a compelling offering for the benefit of our trade partners and consumers,” said Cyril Camus, the president of Camus Cognac.

“We already work well with Flor de Caña in the Chinese and French Domestic markets where our subsidiaries distribute the brand and are excited for the expansion of this partnership. We look forward to growing our footprint in the US with the LSI team.”

Both Flor de Caña and Camus Cognac are family-owned and operated by fifth-generation family members. The rum brand was founded in 1890 and is now run by Eduardo Pellas while the Cognac house was founded in 1863 and is now run by Cyril Camus.

“The brands are a natural fit to be in a portfolio together due to their high-end nature and shared family values. We have great confidence that Camus Cognac will thrive in the months and years to come,” said Marc Hirten, president of LSI’s US business.

Last November, Camus partnered with baijiu producer Anhui Gujing Group to create a whisky with “Chinese characteristics”, constructing a $30m distillery in the Anhui province of China.
