Dunkin’ makes further push into alcoholic RTDs

Dunkin is to launch eight flavours of alcoholic iced tea and iced coffee starting in late August.

US coffee and doughnuts chain Dunkin’ has stepped up its presence in alcohol with the launch of a range of RTDs through grocery stores.

The foodservice group, which has launched seasonal beers in the past, is rolling out Dunkin’ Spiked Iced Coffees and Iced Teas in a dozen US states from later this month. The new line of drinks will be manufactured by Mass. Bay Brewing Company, also known as Harpoon Brewery.

Dunkin’ is launching four of each of the iced coffees and iced teas. The coffees, with an abv of 6%, come in flavours including caramel and vanilla. The range of 5% abv teas includes a Half & Half iced tea (made up of half black tea and half lemonade) and a Strawberry Dragonfruit Iced Tea Refresher, which is made with green tea and “slightly sweet with bright and exotic fruit flavour”.

“We knew we had the opportunity to create something special when we saw the positive response to our previous seasonal collaborations for Dunkin’-inspired beers. The growing appetite for adult beverages inspired us to put a twist on our customers’ favourite Dunkin’ iced coffee, iced tea and Refresher flavours,” Brian Gilbert, vice president of retail business development at Dunkin’, said.

The teas will go on sale later this month, with the coffees following in early September.

They will be sold in states including Connecticut, New York, Texas and Vermont.

Both the tea and coffee products will be available as single 19.2 oz (567ml) cans and in a mix-pack of 12oz cans (354ml) with three of each flavour. The coffee variations have a four-pack option and the teas a six-pack version.

Dunkin’ and Harpoon Brewery had collaborated to roll out a coffee-inspired beer in the US in 2019 and a further line of beers in 2021. All four had been brewed with either coffee, doughnuts or matcha from Dunkin’.

The US company released a Shot in the Dark RTD coffee in 2018 in partnership with The Coca-Cola Co. after the two companies started working together two years earlier with the roll-out of bottled iced coffee beverages.
