Foley Family Wines readies Tequila launch

In May, the group acquired a distillery in Nevada, where it intends to produce Bourbon, gin and American single malts.

US-based Foley Family Wines (FFW) is looking to add a Tequila to its burgeoning range of spirits.

The company, which entered the spirits market earlier this year, is also weighing up a possible move into the low-and-no alcohol market.

Speaking to Just Drinks, FFW president Shawn Schiffer said the group is in the “process of sourcing” a Tequila that it plans to sell in Europe and the US. The Tequila will be made by a distillery partner in Mexico.

FFW entered spirits in May with the acquisition of a distillery in Minden in Nevada, at which it plans to produce gin, Bourbon and American single malt. The group’s plans in spirits include the launch of Lighthouse gin, a New Zealand brand it acquired in 2014, in its domestic market.

The company is also mulling an entry into the low-and-no alcohol category.

“It’s kind of a nascent part of beverage alcohol right now, if you will, and we’re certainly going to look and see where we can play in that space,” Schiffer said in an interview with Just Drinks.

FFW has made a number of acquisitions in wine in the US in recent years and is looking to use M&A to build out its portfolio in spirits.

“We’re always looking at the opportunity to bring brands and facilities into the portfolio that make sense for us,” Schiffer added.

The site in Minden in Nevada houses an American whiskey and white spirit distillery, as well as a 100-year-old flour mill. The acquisition also included the distillery’s existing stock of Bourbon, rye and single malt whiskies.

FFW has appointed the former master distiller of Clear Creek Distillery and Hood River Distiller, Joseph O’Sullivan, as the master distiller of the site.

Ready-to-Drink (RTD) beverages market expected to grow at a CAGR of ~5% by 2027

Rising urbanization coupled with the increasingly busy lifestyles of consumers have resulted in the increasing demand for RTD beverages that are easy to carry and quick to consume. Further, the pandemic has created a huge surge in demand for non-alcoholic beverages with functional benefits and value addition, including low sugar, added proteins, probiotics, and plant-based ingredients. The beverage manufacturers have been capitalizing on the trends by focusing on both value addition and convenience associated with the packaging of RTD beverages.
