Italy-based wine group Marchesi Antinori has snapped up a stake in Tuscan estate Antica Fattoria La Parrina.

The financial terms of the deal between the two family-owned companies were not disclosed.

Fattoria La Parrina covers about 200 hectares, 60 of which are dedicated to vineyards, Marchesi Antinori said. The estate is certified organic.

In a statement, Marchesi Antinori said it “shares ownership” of the estate, which is located in Strada Provinciale Parrina, ten kilometres from Orbetello.

Francesca Spinola, part of the Spinola family that owned Fattoria La Parrina, “will continue to lead with dedication and strategic vision” a new board of directors for the estate, the new shareholder added.

“Marchesi Antinori will define together with Mrs. Spinola the business organisation with an operational reorganisation of all the estate's activities,” the group said. “This management model will make use of the best professionals, thus ensuring a solid structure to face future challenges. Antinori will also take care of the agronomic and oenological management of the estate, being directly responsible for the production of wines.

“In short, Marchesi Antinori’s primary goal is to ensure continuity, also enhancing the focus on wine and farm productions as well as hospitality.”

The estate also has 40 hectares dedicated to fruit growing, 20 to vegetables and a further 22 to olive groves.

In June, Marchesi Antinori extended its interests in the US with the acquisition of a further stake in Washington winery Col Solare.

The group bought the shareholding from co-owner Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, the US wine group.

The Pacific Northwest winery was jointly owned by Marchesi Antinori and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, having been founded by the pair in 1995.

Ste. Michelle Wine Estates also sold its California-based Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars to Marchesi Antinori last year.
