Spain-based distiller MG Destilerías has expanded its range of RTDs with the acquisition of Coppa Cocktails from Dutch peer Toorank International Spirits.

The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, sees MG Destilerías add Coppa Cocktails to a product stable that includes MG Spirit, a line of spirit-based beverages.

In a post on LinkedIn, Solène Bruna-Fiorentino, head of global marketing at MG Destilerías, said: “The addition of Coppa Cocktails, which has 16 ready-to-serve cocktails made of natural ingredients, allows the company to meet the demand of consumers who are looking for versatility, convenience, innovation, flavour and quality.

“This addition will strengthen MG Destilerías' presence in key international markets like the United States and Europe, as well as in the global travel retail channel.”

Just Drinks has approached MG Destilerías for further comment.

Toorank CEO Natal da Graça developed the Coppa Cocktails brand in 2008 with bartender Richard Zijlstra. The range was redesigned and expanded after a relaunch in 2019.

“I redesigned and rebranded Coppa Cocktails to be more in tune with the need for natural flavours and rebranded the brand for the next generation, with amazing results. Coppa is now being sold in over 40 countries and growing. With the sale to MG Distilerias, Coppa is set to grow to global status in the loving care of a family-owned company that loves what they do and are genuinely good and nice people,” da Graça posted on LinkedIn.

Coppa Cocktails also joins an MG Destilerías portfolio that includes the Le Tribute brand, which is sold across categories and Santísima Trinidad de Cuba rum.

In 2022, MG Destilerías and partner Vantguard sold Gin Mare to Brown-Forman.

The Toorank portfolio contains brands including Aspen’s schnapps, Sloane’s gin and Rebellion rum.

Da Graça and MD Henny Tadema acquired Toorank in a management buy-out in 2019 in the wake of former owner Toon Blij’s retirement from the board.

The deal brought to an end Blij’s almost 30-year involvement with Toorank, which he bought from Metaxa in 1990.
