Cans of Tenzing’s “world’s strongest natural energy drink” explode

“We can 100% guarantee this will not happen again,” Tenzing CEO van Bockel said.

Tenzing has recalled Fiery Mango – its newly-launched “world’s strongest natural energy drink” – after several cans exploded.

The UK business launched the 250ml product, which contained 200mg of “natural caffeine” sourced from green coffee and green tea, as well as 1,000mg of cordyceps mushrooms, last week.

The Fiery Mango drinks were available in the UK on Tenzing’s website, Amazon and Holland and Barrett stores.

However, Tenzing has recalled the 250ml "launch cans" of the product due to structurally weak packaging.

UK YouTuber Yung Filly was doing a product reveal on his TikTok channel when one of the Tenzing cans lost containment and spewed the liquid out from the can pull tap.

“Online we have seen a couple of our Tenzing Super Natural Energy cans explode. Our goal was to launch the strongest-ever energy drink, made purely from natural ingredients. It is a potent mix of 200mg of natural caffeine, mushrooms, marine magnesium, ginger, cayenne pepper, vitamin C and Electrolytes; a powerful blend that hasn’t been attempted before," Tenzing CEO and founder Huib van Bockel said.

“We have spoken to our product and blending teams and the only cans that exploded was a very limited run (of 50 cans) we made for our press and influencer launch.”

The company said it has recalled all the 250ml cans and will relaunch Fiery Mango in a larger 330ml can.

“We can 100% guarantee this will not happen again,” van Bockel said.

The Fiery Mango drink held 60mg of caffeine per 100ml, compared to Tenzing Original which has 32mg per 100ml. Meanwhile, Prime Energy contains around 42mg of caffeine per 100ml while Red Bull stands at 30mg per 100ml.

The drink contained magnesium, vitamin C and electrolytes, in order to “meet the demands of anyone in need of a powerful energy boost”, Tenzing said.

Just Drinks has approached Tenzing for further comment on the incident and the recall.

Last August, Tenzing embarked on an investment round to expand its footing in the UK and fund an advertising push. In the UK, the company’s products are listed in supermarket chains including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s.

More recently, Tenzing’s founder supported Labour’s commitment to the banning of the sale of caffeinated energy drinks to teenagers.

However, van Bockel argued it was “arbitrary to go after just energy drinks, when caffeine can be found in all colas and coffees”. He added: “If you ban them, which I fully support, then ban them all.”
