UK fine wines supplier Alliance Wine has acquired local old world wine wholesaler and importer H2Vin.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

London-based H2Vin specialises in procuring wines from France and Spain for sale in the UK’s on- and off-trade. It also sells wines from South Africa, Hungary, Italy, Australia and New Zealand, among other countries.

The company was founded in 2009 by Christian Honorez and Matt Wilkin.

Commenting on the acquisition, H2Vin co-founder Christian Honorez said the group's range, which includes French winemakers such as Clos Rougeard from the Loire region, Domaine Rovert Chevillon from Burgundy and La Vieille Julienne, in Rhône "complement Alliance’s existing world-class offering perfectly”.

He added: “This creates a very exciting new proposition, and we believe that we can challenge the best in the UK market. Offering all of these producers will provide an immediate benefit to all our customers.”

Alliance Wine has indicated that “all” of H2Vin’s staff will be kept on in the business following the acquisition. Co-founder Honorez is being added to Alliance Wine’s buying team, while H2Vin’s second co-founder, Wilkin, is joining Alliance Wine’s ‘Master of Wine’ roster as a master sommelier.

“The combining of the businesses will begin over the autumn,” Alliance Wine CEO Fergal Tynan said.

“We will be creating joint trade activity and events throughout this period and into the new year, culminating in presenting the new combined portfolio to the trade at our annual portfolio tastings in March 2025. I am delighted that this deal has happened. I know this will accelerate Alliance’s growth and success in the months and years to come.”

Alliance Wine was founded in 1984 by Chris Bouteiller in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland. The company is a UK-based supplier of wine to the on- and off-premise, importing products from roughly 20 countries worldwide.

The company also produces its own range of wines sourced from France, Chile, Spain and Australia.
