US-based winemaker Atlas Wine Co. has snapped up a local Californian custom crush facility for an undisclosed fee.

Atlas Wine has gained a 30,000-square-foot facility through its deal to buy Opal Moon Crush, a Sonoma-based wine production company.

Managing partner Alexandre Remy announced the transaction via a post on LinkedIn yesterday (12 August), in which he said Atlas Wine has acquired several assets of Opal Moon. These include both an 80- and 150-hectolitre press, pressurised bottling tanks, a destemmer and an optical sorter.

Atlas Wine is owned and operated by Atlas Vineyard Management, a farming company founded by Mike Cybulski and Barry Belli. The owner has over 3,500 acres of vineyards to manage from Washington and Oregon to the Central Coast, with the majority of the vineyards in Napa and Sonoma counties.

The vintner produces the Omen and Oro Bello wine brands, made using Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Chardonnay grapes, among others.

Just Drinks has contacted Atlas Wine for further details on the transaction.

Last week, another US wine deal saw Ackley Brands acquire the Charles Smith Wines portfolio from California’s The Wine Group.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The deal sees the wine brands including Band of Roses, Kung Fu Girl, Eve, Chateau Smith, The Velvet Devil and Boom Boom! added to Ackley Brands’ roster.

The deal, closed on 8 August. No properties, physical assets or staff were exchanged in the agreement.

“With this acquisition, we’re staying true to our vision for Oregon and Washington wines and reinforcing our belief in the region,” Ackley Brands CEO Brandon Ackley said.
