German beverage manufacturer Waldemar Behn has changed the recipe for its Dooley’s vodka-based cream liqueur brand, making it entirely plant-based.
At the end of October, the Dooley’s Creamy Liqueur brand will be relaunched in 700ml bottles, using soy and coconut alternatives to cow’s milk, the company said in a statement.
The move is being made as it “adapts to evolving consumer preferences and global trends towards more sustainable and plant-based diets”.
The Wikinger Met brand owner added: "The popular quality is the basis, while plant-based contents and more sustainable design also appeal to new customers and continue to bind existing fans to the brand."
Philipp Fellmann, managing director of Waldemar Behn, said: “This bold step adapts to current consumer trends and continues Dooley's success story - more natural, more sustainable, plant-based.
“I am particularly pleased that our new plant-based Dooley's has even exceeded our expectations in terms of taste. We were able to maintain the intensely creamy texture in the plant-based variant too”.
With the relaunch, the range will consist of the varieties Toffee, White Choc Berry and The Yellow One. Each of the plant-based and lactose-free liqueurs holds an abv of 15%, and will be sold at an RRP of €12.99 ($14.45).
The Dooley's cream liqueur brand was first launched in 1999, and is available in a number of regions, including its domestic market, Germany and the UK.
Founded in 1892, Waldemar Behn is based in Eckernförde in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein. The company produces spirits brands such as Kleiner Feigling liqueurs, Andalö aperitif and Danzka Vodka.
The family-run group of companies includes beverage wholesaler Behn Getranke, also located in Schleswig-Holstein, which supplies local on- and off-premise channels, including restaurants, food retailers, petrol stations, and clinics and hospitals.
Waldemar Behn has undergone other bottle redesigns of late, including a fresh look for its Andalö aperitif brand in March as well as its Danzka vodka brand in February.
