The new portfolio includes the introduction of an exciting new pair of affordable varietal Portuguese wines under the ‘Lazy Bones’ label.
Victoria Chapman comments, “I’d noticed a high proportion of Portuguese still wine available in the UK is positioned at a premium price point. What seemed to be missing were great value, accessibly priced options for On Trade consumers to explore. Tejo is a great source for vibrant good-quality wine and we worked with Iberian specialist Oakley Wines to create our new Lazy Bones red-and-white pair.” The new wines launch officially this month.
The new range includes a host of new listings from around the world including England, Greece and USA. Crown Cellars has also continued its own-label rejuvenation programme, this year releasing fresh new designs for its O&E varietal range, Spanish Lobo Loco and Italian Zimor ranges.
In addition, the team has added to its de-alcoholised wine range with a trio from La Baume Saint-Paul. “Over the last 12 months, our alcohol-free category has been incredibly successful,” says Victoria. “Customer feedback on our 0% range has been overwhelmingly positive and sales far exceeded our original forecasts, so it’s clear this area is here to stay and continues to be of growing interest.”
“I am particularly delighted that we have added a pair of Greek wines to the portfolio for the first time,” enthuses Jonathan Pedley MW. “There has been a wonderful wine renaissance in Greece in recent decades, with ancient grape varieties rediscovered and a sizeable investment in modern winemaking kit. The Strofilia winery in the Peloponnese has been part of this movement. Their Moschofilero white is a personal favourite: delicately fragrant on the nose and vibrantly fresh on the palate.”
This launch is the first since the formation of Carlsberg Britvic in the UK, of which Crown Cellars is an integral part. Paul Waller, Director of Third Party Brands, says, “It’s been a busy and exciting year for all of us. Crown Cellars will continue to be a dedicated On Trade wine specialist, supporting our customers with expertise and insight. It feels incredibly positive to be doing so as part of a dynamic new integrated multi-beverage powerhouse formed from two exceptional legacy businesses.”
